GeoGearHeadsFor the two hundred sixtieth edition of the GeoGearHeads ChrisOfTheNorthWest, DarrylW4, and gslink&slinkymama (of "Geocache Talk") take on a variety of topics. The first item on the agenda was a correction by Sherminator18 to "GGH 252: Virtual Caching Bag I." Sadly the one feature of Cachebot that had made it a recommendation (the push notifications) have been removed and will not be coming back. So that app is off the suggested apps list. Then L&N Railroad continued with more information about the FRS/GMRS bands and licenses in the U.S. JerseyEric had an issue with the Demo Mode on Garmin eTrex line. There wasn't much about it in the user manual or GPS Mode Settings. On an important, but non-Geocaching related point, Wanzong asked about password managers. "1Password" and "LastPass" were the popular ones DarrylW4 initially suggested. The guys also found the How-To Geek "Password Managers Compared: LastPass vs KeePass vs Dashlane vs 1Password" and the "How Secure Is My Password?" site. Back to Geocaching – MO Baggins shared his "DGS: The Dirtbags TB Safehouse" (GC6R759) which he setup in his yard. Gary shared the iMore "Best Touchscreen Gloves for Winter" article. Then last up was the news about that "Galileo declares Initial Services" from GPS World and the "Russian resupply ship destroyed en route to International Space Station" from Engadget. Team MavEtJu reminded us to mention the Geocaching Australia Summer Scavenger Series.

GeoGearHeadsAnteaus, cnlson, and Sherminator18 talk about getting into 3D Printing of Geocaches for the two hundred fifty-ninth edition of the GeoGearHeads. They focused on the FFF/FDM style 3D Printers and talked about the Makerbot Replicator 2, Malyan M150, Monoprice Select Mini 3D Printer, portabee go, Powerspec Ultra 3D, and Wanhao Duplicator i3 they've used. Limax email about the safety of birds around 3D Printers. cnlson found the Science Direct article which provided a little insight into the hazard of the particles. They went through several of the materials used in FFF printers (ABS, PLA, PETG, Nylon, TPE, and TPU). For sealing, Anteaus recommends the Krylon Crystal Clear (and Rite-in-the-rain logs). Some more tools mentioned are;

Some good references for print quality troubleshooting are on All3DP and Simplify3D. There's also help on finishing the prints on Makerbot. The extra conversation can be found on Patreon.

GeoGearHeadsFor the two hundred fifty-fourth edition of the GeoGearHeads ChrisOfTheNorthWest and DarrylW4 had some issue tripping over their words. The show was to have been an update to "GGH 094: Getting Good Coords I" (which is still worth checking out). brilang pointed out that the Geocaching.com article "1.3. How to get accurate coordinates" had been updated and recommends the "GPS Averaging" app for Android users. The discussion about the coordinate system included "World Geodetic System, Latitude, and Longitude before talking about converting between degrees and degrees minutes.

First, Limax found the GMRS page on the FCC site they were looking for during last week's show, and chrispt found a breakdown on GMRS for HAMs. Team MavEtJu also made the correction to the misspoken "Geocaching.com.au" last week.

GeoGearHeadsChrisOfTheNorthWest and DarrylW4 run through several topics for the two hundred fifty-third edition of the GeoGearHeads – the fifty-first Randomize show. Darryl started the conversion with his experience with location issues on iOS 10.1 fixed by resetting the Network Settings. Team MavEtJu shared that his Lighthouse virtual caches on Geocaching.au has been completed (map) using Wikipedia and Lighthouses.org.au as references. Following up to "GGH 251: GPSR Picking II" we heard from L&N Railroad on the Garmin GPSMAP 64st while Team Pugatch mentioned his Magellan eXplorist GC and Garmin eTrex 20x. He then wrote about moving his wife from Geocaching® to Cachly. Finally he wanted some information about walkie-talkies. Darryl found the following options for a pair at less than $100US through Amazon;

Chris found the "FCC eliminates GMRS regulatory fee" blog post about the GMRS licenses. We also heard from Rock Chalk at Geocaching.com about the beta of the "My Lists" feature available to Premium Members. Last on the rundown was the Engadget article "Six next-gen battery technologies."

GeoGearHeadsFor the two hundred thirty-ninth edition of the GeoGearHeads The Bad Cop and DarrylW4 talk through several smaller topics. First up were a couple of tips from Cedar & Co. Then of all the stories about Pokémon Go, there were a few interesting ones the guys mentioned;

Astronut sent in the very interesting article from Space News Feed titled "Seeing the satnav for the trees." Another article titled "Australia's latitude and longitude coordinates out by more than 1.5 metres, scientists say" submitted by Team MavEtJu talks about the movement of the earth. The iMore article "Best iPhone bike mounts to withstand the toughest trails" was shared as a good resource to check out bike mounts and Engadget's "The best USB battery packs" for selecting a good external battery for the field and travel. But the "I accidentally broke the super-rugged Cat S60 smartphone" article generated some discussion about how fragile even the most rugged devices can be. Then there was the news that " iOS 10 warns when your Lightning port gets wet" which sounds like a good idea. Finally, the "US government agency calls for the end of SMS authentication" article looked at a report which might change the was we log-in.
